“Strength comes in numbers”, an expression meaning an emotional and morale strength drawn from a group of people, has evolved to become “Results come in numbers” for those who desire to lose weight and reach a healthy body composition. More and more studies are finding that structured group nutrition coaching and programming over self-help is more effective in achieving weight loss goals. In a study published in JAMA (The Journal of the American Medical Association), group nutrition coaching participants lost over three times more weight than those in the self-help group. After the conclusion of the study, the self-help group regained all of the weight they had lost, but the group coaching participants kept off more than the six of the ten pounds they initially shed.1
Because of the growing need for nutrition education, CarolAnn, MS, CPT, CN, head pro-trainer for FiTOUR, co-created and co-founded NutriMethod, a comprehensive 8-week nutrition club program designed to help individuals reach their health & body composition goals through the positive effects of community support led by an expert. The NutriMethod program embraces a nutrition approach that encourages individuals to eat moderate portions of an array of foods. The philosophy is based on a belief that achieving good health and fitness comes from Eating Clean and Living Lean. Consuming nutrient dense foods from a variety of sources and moving the body are key to achieving managing weight, overcoming plateaus, and performing your best. To achieve specific goals takes support and accountability. The “i” in illness is isolation, and the crucial letters in wellness is “we”. The Nutrition Club is designed to help individuals achieve his/her goal while participating in a group setting. The NutriMethod culture is fun, supportive, and non-judgmental. Success comes as a result from team support and recognition.
The program meets on a weekly basis for 8 weeks and includes education on eating triggers, stress management, proper exercise planning, healthy meal planning, and nutrient timing along with healthy shopping tours. Each individual participates in a baseline analysis which includes body composition, measurements, basal metabolic rate (BMR) and estimated total energy expenditure. The group sets short term and long term goals and their progress is tracked through journaling. The program begins with a 7-day detox then rolls into a weekly meal plan that is based on each individual’s BMR. At the end of the program, each individual is measured again and is given recommendations based on their results compared to their goals.
“We’ve had huge success with this program”, says CarolAnn. “I created this program along with my business partner, Cynthia Gregory who specializes in behavioral science. The biggest feedback that we get is how simple the program is to follow. The ultimate goal for the group program is to provide individuals a method that will work specifically for him/her for LIFE!! We are providing participants tools that they can use forever. Not only are participants achieving their goals, but they are doing it the healthy way with the support of their peers.” For more information on NutriMethod, go to www.Nutri-Method.com.
